Palmer Trail

Last night Jane and I went and rode the Palmer Trail, not to be confused with Palmer Park. The trailhead is about 2 miles from our apartment, up a dirt road that cuts through the rock faces. The trail itself is about a three mile climb through pine scrub and sparse aspen forest. To me, coming from the closely packed trees of Michigan, the trail feels wide open, but the fellows I rode with the other day warned me about how tight the descent is. Well, I certainly scared myself on the descent--not because it was tight though! I railed a corner way too fast and nearly rocketed off the trail. I would have been rolling for a few hundred feet unless I lucked out and was stopped by one of the few trees the can grow on the steep slope. In a bizarre way, it felt really good to scare myself that way. At least I knew I wasn't taking it too easy.
Jane brought her camera on the ride, so hopefully I'll be able to post a couple of the pictures soon. In other news, Jane is designing a cyclocross training plan that both of us can use. I don't know about this....training? The jury is still out on this concept...
