The 'cross Gran Prix came to Colorado last weekend, with a race in Denver and a second in Boulder. I made it up for the Boulder race, riding to 8th place in the women's Cat 3 division. I enjoyed this course more than the last one (a sandpit, yuck)--This race was mostly gently sloping grass, with one good hill to stomp up, and a lot of hairpin corners.
So after racing all those corners, I swapped over to my mountain bike, and rode it on over to the Fix, to finally check out what this pump track scene is all about. Surprisingly my buddy and I were the only ones there for a while, but that just meant more fun for us. We set up a girder to wall ride, hit up the dirt jumps a little, and of course, played on the pump track until I couldn't move. It frickin rocked! As my good friend Will would say, BRAAAP!
Then we rode back to watch as Katie Compton stomped the field (big surprise, she dominates!), and Barry Wicks pulled of the win in the Men's Elites.
No question, the pump track was the highlight of my banner day of riding. It was a balm for the soul to go play at jibber again, hitting dirt jumps in full spandex. I can't wait to get back...maybe next time I will get to meet Lee McCormack, whose website name I plagarized for my Blog name. Check out his website, it rocks!
