Perfect Powder

Perhaps you saw on the news that the Front Range was pelted with snow just before Christmas. Parts of Denver hit 27 inches, plus drifting, and here in Colorado Springs, I got a day and a half off from work because the entire city shut down.
So what to do with all that free time and fresh powder? Ski. I hit up Monarch Mountain, a not-so-famous lift-serviced area about two hours' drive from my home. People here complain about it's small size and lack of amenities, but I reckon I'm not there to buy fur coats. I'm there for powder and trees.
I had an absolutely heavenly day of skiing. Of all people I ended up going with my roomate Jane's boyfriend, and a random patroller that he knew. Deep, deep, untracked tree skiing all day.
I like bikes and all, but a good powder day is rarer than the fish in sushi. This was it. That perfect day.

f**k you. just kidding. i'm only jealous. my last powder day was a week before any of the resorts opened here. a couple of buddies and i skied up to the north peak at boyne and made a few runs in 10 inches of fresh snow before we got the impression that the groomer guy was probably going to ask us to leave. i've been out since then (end of nov.) but it's been subpar to say the least. good for you getting out, i'm sure it will have to snow here before too long. until then, we'll just have to settle for getting bundled up and riding the singletrack.

Well, I was the jealous one in the early season, since this was the firs time I've been out all year. And no nordic here! I'm really missing that, surprisingly.
