Wow.
The Mountain States Cup has been announced for this season, and it is gonna be epic.
- Total number of weekends: Eleven
- Weekends with endurance races: Nine
- Weekends with gravity races: Nine
- Number of weekends that are UCI races for gravity: Three (this is big news!)
- Duration of the season: April 12th through September 7th
What does this mean?
First, those UCI gravity races will attract some of the big names to our little local series. You see, in order to do things like qualify for Worlds, people like Cedric Gracia and Brian Lopes have to compete in the UCI races for points. I'm prepared to watch some jaw-dropping gravity racing (no pun intended).
Second, I'm in for a long season. I've been described as having an identity crisis. That is, I'm an XC racer with an abiding love for Super D. Which means I'll be at a good number of those eleven (11!) race weekends.
Finally the venue line-up sounds like a bike rider's "Best-Of". Classic MSC venues like Angel Fire and Telluride (I loved racing at these places last year) are joined by such notable newcomers as Fruita, SolVista, and Breckenridge. Racing in Fruita? I'm super stoked!
