So I recently had the great opportunity to be a ride leader for USA Cycling's Rocky Mountain Development camp. What does that mean? It means I had a banner week working with some very cool folks.
Working with development riders: We had 25 athletes, all but one of which were high school age. These kids were stoked to learn and ride.
Being at the Olympic Training Center: Yes, it is that cool. Yes, it is inspiring to a degree I can't express. And, best of all.....the food! Oh, so good. Imagine all the foods the nutritionists tell you to eat, prepared for you, available any time between 7am and 9pm. Thank goodness we were constantly riding, or I would have gotten chubby.
Learning from some of the best: Rides were interspersed with lectures and interactive lessons. Of course these were targeted for the kids, but I think all of us "adults" came away with new knowledge. We had experts work on nutrition, core strengthening, sports psychology, and a host of many other subjects. But I think the most jaw-dropping moment had to be when Greg Frozley wheelied his bike through a switchback. Downhill. Incredible.
